Series: The Importance of…
The Importance of Mothers
INTRO: I want to wish all of you a happy Mothers’ Day. I am going to continue with the series, The Importance of… today. Of course the obvious message for today is: “The Importance of Mothers.” I could simply say very and sit down and would be correct, but I want to see what the Bible has to say about mothers’ importance.
Genesis 3:16(NKJV) 16To the woman He said: “I will greatly
multiply your sorrow and your conception; In pain you shall bring forth
children; Your desire shall be for your husband, And he shall rule over
you.”
Matthew
15:22-28(NKJV) 22And behold, a woman of Canaan came from that region
and cried out to Him, saying, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! My
daughter is severely demon-possessed.”
23But He answered her not a word. And His disciples came and urged
Him, saying, “Send her away, for she cries out after us.”
24But He answered and said, “I was not sent except to the lost sheep
of the house of Israel.”
25Then she came and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, help me!”
26But He answered and said, “It is not good to take the children’s
bread and throw it to the little dogs.”
27And she said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs
which fall from their masters’ table.”
28Then Jesus answered and said to her, “O woman, great is
your faith! Let it be to you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed from
that very hour.

Genesis
21:14-17(NKJV) 14So Abraham rose early in the morning, and took bread
and a skin of water; and putting it on her shoulder, he gave it
and the boy to Hagar, and sent her away. Then she departed and wandered in the
Wilderness of Beersheba.
15And the water in the skin was used up, and she placed the boy
under one of the shrubs.
16Then she went and sat down across from him at a distance of
about a bowshot; for she said to herself, “Let me not see the death of the
boy.” So she sat opposite him, and lifted her voice and wept.
17And God heard the voice of the lad. Then the angel of God called
to Hagar out of heaven, and said to her, “What ails you, Hagar? Fear not, for
God has heard the voice of the lad where he is.

Timothy 1:1-7(NKJV) 1Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God,
according to the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus,
2To Timothy, a beloved son: Grace, mercy, and peace from God
the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
3I thank God, whom I serve with a pure conscience, as my
forefathers did, as without ceasing I remember you in my prayers night
and day,
4greatly desiring to see you, being mindful of your tears, that I
may be filled with joy,
5when I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which
dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded
is in you also.
6Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you
through the laying on of my hands.
7For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love
and of a sound mind.

3:17-21(KJV) 17And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in
the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
18Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in
the Lord.
19Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them.
20Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well
pleasing unto the Lord.
21Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be
discouraged.

2:3-5(NKJV) 3the older women likewise, that they be reverent in
behavior, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things—
4that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love
their children,
5to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own
husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed.
Matthew
5:3-9(KJV) 3Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is
the kingdom of heaven.
4Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
5Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
6Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after
righteousness: for they shall be filled.
7Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
8Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
9Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the
children of God.

We learn from those close to us
We share with those beside us
We give to those who are able to reach out to us
They give to those next to them
Mothers need to know the Lord, show the Lord, and share the Lord with her own family that their families might also know the Lord, show the Lord and share the Lord with their own families.
What can we men learn from this today?

16:1-3(NKJV) 1I commend to you Phoebe our sister, who is a servant
of the church in Cenchrea,
2that you may receive her in the Lord in a manner worthy of the
saints, and assist her in whatever business she has need of you; for indeed she
has been a helper of many and of myself also.
