Altar ED, The Altar Of Witness

Joshua 22

Joshua 22:34 And the children of Reuben and the children of Gad called the altar Ed: for it shall be a witness between us that the LORD is God.

Verse 22a: The LORD God of gods, the LORD God of gods, he knoweth,

INTRO: Some of the Israelites had completed their agreement. They placed an altar as a witness. We need to do so today! With our God as our witness. A God that sees and knows our intents and our very thoughts.

When erecting an altar of witness, ours must…

Point to our Exalted Deity and Lord

God is first in our lives

Our great love for God

More than for self

More than fear

Respect for Him, and all that is His

Our altar of witness must also …

Show our Elective Departure from sinful living

Disdain for ungodly practices

Desire to live Holy

Desire to be closer to Him

Desire to “let go” of sin

Our altar of witness will also …

Certify our Everyday Dependence for Help from the Master

We need help – I do!

He can help

We need His help

He will help

We need to ask for help

If we have "put-up" our altar of witness it will …

Demonstrate our Expressed Dedication to His work

Worship

Bible study

Prayer

Godly living (more than attendance - but attitude and actions)

Godly giving

Working for Him

And finally, If we have placed our altar of witness well, it will …

Illustrate our Envisioned Determination to reach others for Christ

Caring attitude

Not selfish

Not prideful, etc.

Awareness of their need

Lost

Headed wrong way

In peril

Understanding their situation

They need the Lord

They need to see the Lord

They need to know the Lord

They need to show the Lord

Responsiveness to their need

Do you see “dead people?”

Meeting their need

I.L. Titanic (life jackets - 300+ died with life jackets because the lifeboats did not answer their plea)

A Right Relationship With God can be yours if you will accept Him and let Him help you.

You can be a witness for the Lord

Do you know how to be saved?

Acknowledge that you have sinned (sin separates you from God)

Believe Jesus died for YOUR sins (only faith in Him alone can bring salvation)

Ask Him to forgive you and believe He will forgive you (He said that He would)

Accept Him as your Lord and savior (then we should follow Him, trusting Him for our salvation
