Don't Miss What Thomas Missed

John 20:18 - 31

18Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that he had spoken these things unto her.

19Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.

20And when he had so said, he showed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord.

21Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.

22And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:

23Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained.

24But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.

25The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.

26And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you.

27Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.

28And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.

29Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.

30And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book:

31But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

He missed the Master - 24

For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. - Matthew 18:20

We need to see the Master - "we would see Jesus"

Others need to see Jesus

John 12:20 - 26

20And there were certain Greeks among them that came up to worship at the feast:

21The same came therefore to Philip, which was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and desired him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus.

22Philip cometh and telleth Andrew: and again Andrew and Philip tell Jesus.

23And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified.

24Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.

25He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.

26If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.

He missed the message - 19

He needed to hear Christ's message of truth

He needed to hear Christ's message of peace

We need to hear His message from His Word

He missed the fellowship - 19

The disciples were assembled together

Togetherness brings strength that he needed

Togetherness brings strength that we need

He missed the proof - 20

He showed them His wounds

He was the Lord, alive and well

He missed the joy - 20

They were glad

Thomas could have used the gladness they shared

Share the gladness He brings to my heart

He missed the mandate - 21

As the Father hath sent me, so send I you.

He has a job for all of us

He missed the anointing - 22

Christ breathed upon them

They received the Holy Ghost

Yet He did not miss it all…

He spoke of His loss - 24-25

He stayed close to the others - 26

He saw and heard and I believe touched the Lord - 26-27

He said He was Lord (wholly) - 28

He saw it all - 29-31

Not Doubting Thomas, but Believing Thomas
