Series: Things Jesus Wants Us To Know

Part 1 - He Is The One Sent By God For You

INTRO: Today I want to start a series. This series will deal with things I think Jesus wants us to know. Hopefully we will see in our own lives areas that He would have us strengthen, add to and develop. There are so many things we can learn from Jesus and His teachings.

I have entitled today's message "He Is The One Sent By God For you."

Luke 4:18 - 22

18The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

19To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

20And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him.

21And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.

22And all bare him witness, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth. And they said, Is not this Joseph’s son?

We read on Matthew their reaction to the same declaration by Christ…

Matthew 7:28 - 29 28And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine:

29For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

Matthew 11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

Jesus is a teacher we can taste

True to His word

Accurate in His assessments

Brought God's message to life

Breathed life into those who had almost given up

Brought a proper solution to the table

(versus a burden too heavy to bear [i.e. the law])

As a teacher, Jesus wants us to learn of Him and follow Him. In fact we can see in John 13:15 He wants to be our example…

John 13:15 For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.

Jesus is an example we can trust

Philippians 2:5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

His example should be our ideal, held to the utmost objective

Romans 15:5 Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus:

His record is right

John 1:29 - 34 29The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

30This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me.

31And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water.

32And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him.

33And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.

34And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.

His example when followed, changes people

Colossians 3:13 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.

And because of that we know…

His example is worth following

And last we can see…

He practiced what He preached

1 Peter 2:21 - 25 21For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:

22Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:

23Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:

24Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

25For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.

Jesus is a Savior we can try

He must be used to do us proper benefit - 14,15

He is God's choice for us - 16

He brings the gift of salvation - 17

He brings true forgiveness - 18

He is the light we need to have in our lives - 19-21

John 3:13 - 21 13And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.

14And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:

15That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

17For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

18He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

19And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

20For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.

21But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

When we look at Jesus and the relationship He wants us to have, we can be happy and confident that He is the One God sent for us to obtain eternal life.

Have you chosen God's Son?

Have you trusted in HIM?

Have you trusted in HIM alone?

You Can rejoice that He is for you, are you for Him?
