How Does God Feel About Our Sin?
- part 1Pro.6:16-23
INTRO: Have you ever wondered just how does God feel about something? How does He feel about certain sins? Have you ever seen someone who was really quick to condemn others' sins and were guilty of their own sins and seemed oblivious to the deadliness of sin in their own lives?
Well God is against sin. All forms, but He has in His Word given us an insight to some sins that are grievous in His sight. Today I am going to take a look at the first three these seven sins listed in Proverbs 6 and look at some aspects from God's Word.
I have always found these sins that were listed interesting. Here we have a list of something that God hates. Something He really dislikes. Something that He does not want us doing in any shape, form or fashion. So how do we approach them? How do we understand this. Let's look into God's Word and get started.
Proverbs 6:16 - 23 16These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:
17
A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,18
An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,19
A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.20
My son, keep thy father’s commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother:21
Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck.22
When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.23
For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:A proud look (haughty eyes)
Proverbs 16:18 Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty [snobbish or arrogant] spirit before a fall.
When I was younger, I used to read this and think, can we help how we look. If our hair is red, can we change that? - Well I guess to a point we can, but a proud look, come on!
Well when you understand how this is approached, we see pride does show up in our appearance because it is in our hearts.
Problem:
A proud look is the indicator of sin in our lives
Satan had a proud look (I think) - he wants us to be part of his gang
Pharaoh in Ex. 5 was so proud it cost him and his nation greatly
Pride brings destruction, even a prelude to a fall
Cain slew his brother because of pride
Pride effects our every day actions
Pride is sin
Pride is in the eyes - "mirror of the soul"
Cure:
Dose of humbleness - Pro. 11:2
Proverbs 11:2 When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.
See it as sin and let go!
1 John 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
Cling to the One you need in your life with all the humbleness you have and ask for more while you are at it.
Use those eyes to "look" on Jesus
Now I am not saying we cannot keep our appearances nice, nor am I condoning never grooming and things like that - we are dealing with issues of the heart, not how we dress. IF dressing down can get us to heaven, then Jesus died in vain.
So when we see someone with a proud look (haughty eyes), they are walking in a area that God has identified as sinful, ultimately hurtful to them and those around. So the proud look is not the nice hair, clothes, car, house, etc., but it is the attitude they carry around that shows in their eyes as they look down on people and even God Himself.
A lying tongue:
Rev. 21:27 And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb’s book of life.
Rev. 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
Problem:
It causes mistrust
It mocks the truth
It is anti-God's Son or anti-God or pro-Satan
John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
James 1:16 - 18 16Do not err, my beloved brethren.
17
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.18
Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures. It is anti-society (perjury)(Indians called it a "forked-tongue")
It kills - kills reputations, breaks hearts and spirits
Lying is sin - in God's book, my book, and should be in your book!
Lying is like the flypaper of life - it collects or sticks to things we do not need - often for all to see
Lying is like sandpaper, it rubs us the wrong way
Lying is like a cancer that east away until we are defeated
Ananias and Sapphira paid dearly quickly - we do not always pay "upfront" - but there is a cost for lying
Cure:
Colossians 3:9 Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;
God is truth
We need a touch of God's truth in our lives
We need to know His only Son as our Savior
We need to live Him in our daily walk
We need to share His life-changing truth with others
We need to trust each other
We need to trust Him most of all
Let go, cease, desist, stop!!!!!!
We need to live and be truthful
Lying is sin
Sin harms
Sin maims
Sin kills
The third hated sin is…
Hands that shed innocent blood:
Problem:
People are…
Filled with contempt
Filled with pride
Filled with greed
Filled with sin
Filled with selfishness - They care not for anyone but self
We see…
Pharaoh - who killed the baby male Hebrews
Herod who killed bay boys and tried to kill God's Son, Jesus
Joseph's brothers were willing to have him dead
Judas betrayed the Lord "I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood"
Cure:
Golden rule needs to be pasted upon your heart
Pride purged from your life
Blood of Christ needs to be applied to your sins
You need to ask for forgiveness from Christ
Psalms 94:21 - 23 21 They gather themselves together against the soul of the righteous, and condemn the innocent blood.
22
But the LORD is my defence; and my God is the rock of my refuge.23
And he shall bring upon them their own iniquity, and shall cut them off in their own wickedness; yea, the LORD our God shall cut them off.Know Him, show Him, Go with Him
So today, we have looked at three of the seven sins that God hates or detests!
One can see they build on each other. Pride often is the cause of lying. Mistreating others often comes from our haughty ideas and feelings.
Lying causes strife and friction, mistrust, poor relationships and leads to problems even those that escalate into physical confrontations.
These are sin-laden, sinful, ungodly actions that He despises. They will ruin our lives and others around us. We need to let go, quit the sinnin' business. Trust on the Anointed One, the Promised One, the Only One who can change our lives and bring salvation. Jesus
