Hey Look At Me, What You See Is What You Get

INTRO: What do people see when they look at you? As we face the New Year, we face many of the same problems we have faced this past year. We all face the failures and successes we have previously sustained. When I think of the New Year, I wonder many things. Can we do better? Can we succeed where we failed in the past? How? Who or what can help us? Who or what can make a difference in our lives? How does this change us in the eyes of others? Does this change us in the eyes of others?

This is something I want to deal with today. I want to deal with two specific questions this morning…

What should people see when they look at me?

And

What can I do to be seen the way God wants me to be seen?

Before I begin, I want you to know, I am dealing with this through a Christian perspective.

Let us look into God's Word…

Deuteronomy 10:12 And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul,

Let's get started with our questions. First…

What should people see when they look at me?

A believer of Christ

Someone who has trusted and called upon Christ for their salvation

Someone who has realized their dependence should be on God's Son

Someone who loves the Lord and serves Him

A lover of God and His people

Psalms 31:23 O love the LORD, all ye his saints: for the LORD preserveth the faithful, and plentifully rewardeth the proud doer.

2 Thessalonians 3:5 And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ.

Jude 21 Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.

Someone who truly loves God

Not just the perks

Not just for escape

Not just because He expects it for us

 Someone who loves God's people

Even when they are not so loveable

Even when they don't love us?

Especially when we are not around them

Some one who loves the lost

Understand they can be reached by His love

Understand you are a vessel of His love

Understand they need God's love shown to them by you

So when people look at us they should see…A believer of Christ, A lover of God and His people, and…

A servant of God

A servant most of all

A servant who serves with a right attitude

A servant who cares about the Master's wants

A servant who shares His Master's good fortunes (salvation)

A servant who is unselfish

A servant who lovingly obeys in all things

Not just the easy things

Not just the understandable things (like murder, 10 commandments)

Not just the seen things

Now, for the second question…

What can I do to be seen the way God wants me to be seen?

Be in Christ and Him in you

Galatians 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

1 Peter 3:15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

Be spiritual

Galatians 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

Be one who believes

2 Corinthians 5:7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:)

 Be consistent

Ephesians 4:1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,

Be loving

Ephesians 5:2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.

Be cautious

Ephesians 5:15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,

Be Christlike

1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

Be real (not hypocritical)

Matthew 6:5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

Matthew 15:8 This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.

Matthew 23:23 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

Luke 6:46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?

Romans 2:1 Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.

Romans 2:21 Thou therefore which teachest another, teachest thou not thyself? thou that preachest a man should not steal, dost thou steal?

Titus 1:16 They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.

2 Samuel 12:14 Howbeit, because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme, the child also that is born unto thee shall surely die.
