God's Light Will Bring Rejoicing, Let Us Rejoice Well
Tonight I am going to continue the series Bro. Rick started this week. Bro. Rick felt that he needed to go home to minister to the family that lost a young man who took his life. Let us continue to pray for God's work in Woodhaven where Ridck's dad and he pastor.
I hope you are not too disappointed tonight.
Rick's theme this week was from 1 John 1:5: This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
Rick's thoughts were…
God's light was revealed through His Son
God's light must be received by each of us personally
God's light will be rejected, so we must remain encouraged and continue to offer the Gospel
God's light must be reflected in us
Tonight, I want to continue on this line using the thought…
God's Light Will Bring Rejoicing, Let Us Rejoice Well!
I want you to underline in your Bible each time we encounter the word rejoice or a form of it.
Philippians 4:1 - 23
1
Therefore, my brethren dearly beloved and longed for, my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord, my dearly beloved.2
I beseech Euodias, and beseech Syntyche, that they be of the same mind in the Lord.3
And I entreat thee also, true yokefellow, help those women which laboured with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and with other my fellowlabourers, whose names are in the book of life.4
Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.5
Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.6
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.7
And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.8
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.9
Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.10
But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at the last your care of me hath flourished again; wherein ye were also careful, but ye lacked opportunity.11
Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.12
I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.13
I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.14
Notwithstanding ye have well done, that ye did communicate with my affliction.15
Now ye Philippians know also, that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church communicated with me as concerning giving and receiving, but ye only.16
For even in Thessalonica ye sent once and again unto my necessity.17
Not because I desire a gift: but I desire fruit that may abound to your account.18
But I have all, and abound: I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to God.19
But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.20
Now unto God and our Father be glory for ever and ever. Amen.21
Salute every saint in Christ Jesus. The brethren which are with me greet you.22
All the saints salute you, chiefly they that are of Caesar’s household.23
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.Rejoice not…
We need to be rejoicing always. Here are some of the times we can rejoice from Phillipians 4:
First we need to be rejoicing…
In the Lord - vs. 4
Salvation
Luke 10:20 Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.
Serving the Lord
Sharing the Good News
1 Peter 1:3 - 8 3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
4
To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,5
Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.6
Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations:7
That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:8
Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:Philippians 1:18 - 27 18What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretence, or in truth, Christ is preached; and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice.
19
For I know that this shall turn to my salvation through your prayer, and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,20
According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death.21
For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.22
But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labour: yet what I shall choose I wot not.23
For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:24
Nevertheless to abide in the flesh is more needful for you.25
And having this confidence, I know that I shall abide and continue with you all for your furtherance and joy of faith;26
That your rejoicing may be more abundant in Jesus Christ for me by my coming to you again.27
Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel; In His strength - vs. 6
It is by His strength we gain
It is by His strength we stand
In His peace - vs. 7
True peace comes through Him and His blessings
Praise God!
In His blessings - vs. 8
All things come through and by Him
In His teaching - vs. 9
We should have great rejoicing because we can have His Word interwoven into our lives
1 Corinthians 13:6 6Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
In His labors - vs. 10 (we see some in verse 3)
Helping His work
Helping each other
Helping spread His love, etc.
In His provision - vs. 11
David said in:
Psalms 37:25 I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.
God is able to provide for each of us
God wants us to be willing to reach out to Him
In difficulties and His following help - vs. 13
1 Corinthians 10:12 - 14 12Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.
13
There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.14
Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.Rejoice that we can overcome
Rejoice that He will help us
Rejoice that we can be stronger
In the fellowship - vs. 15 - 18; vs. 21-22; vs. 3
