God's Gift Of Motherly Power Is Upon Us

Mothers' responsibility

Mothers' Blessings

Or

Mom…To Be Continued!

Intro: Welcome to our church. I hope this is a blessed Mothers' Day for all of you! Let me day, I love and appreciate my mother. She has been a mother first of all -- protecting and caring for me when I was small; praying and calling out to God for me when I was growing up; still praying and caring for me as I get old. Thank God for my mom!

She has been my friend. Someone I enjoyed being around when I was young. Someone I grew to respect as I matured. Thank God for my mom!

Also today, I thank God for other good women in my life, many who have been like a mother in my life. I am thankful for my Mother-in-law, Laverne. She has been so nice to me all the years I have known her. Contrary to all the anecdotes made about Mother-in-laws, she has been a great light in my life.

Also I am thankful for the grandmothers I had in my life. I am so glad I got to know them and experience what they had known in life and all their life had to offer. They have helped make me what God has allowed me to be.

And finally, I thank God for you, all the mothers here today especially those who have been so kind to me over the years. Your prayers and support of my ministry are a joy. There are many times of difficulties and sadness in the ministry, but there are also many times of blessings. You, all the godly mothers, help make it so. It is your regular attendance and smiles that help make it easier to go on for the Lord.

Before I start, I know many of you fellows are thinking, "This is not for me." Or maybe you are thinking, This is SO not for me!" Or maybe you are thinking, "I do not know why I am here today, I mean, I am not a mother!" Okay, but you are still here and God's Word still applies and you are also responsible to God this day! So, you need to listen too!

Let us pray and ask God's blessings upon our worship and His Word this day.

[make sure you pray for their recognition of their responsibility to God, their family, their friends and their church.]

2 Timothy 1:1 - 13

1Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, according to the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus,

2To Timothy, my dearly beloved son: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.

3I thank God, whom I serve from my forefathers with pure conscience, that without ceasing I have remembrance of thee in my prayers night and day;

4Greatly desiring to see thee, being mindful of thy tears, that I may be filled with joy;

5When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.

6Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.

7For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

8Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;

9Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,

10But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:

11Whereunto I am appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles.

12For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.

13Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.

When we look at God's Word this day we can see many sound Biblical truths for us to hold up…

We can see the…

Blessing of His promise - vs. 1

It is only in Him

It is ours if we ask

1Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, according to the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus,

Blessing of His mercy and peace - vs. 2

It is from the Father and Son

2To Timothy, my dearly beloved son: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.

Blessing of His remembrance - vs. 3

We can care and spend time calling upon God for each other

3I thank God, whom I serve from my forefathers with pure conscience, that without ceasing I have remembrance of thee in my prayers night and day;

Blessing of His tears - vs. 4

There are times of sadness in this life (because we are separated in this life)

but these will be turned to joy

4Greatly desiring to see thee, being mindful of thy tears, that I may be filled with joy;

Blessing of His faith - vs. 5

We can rejoice that His faith continues on

First in Grandma Lois

Next in Mother Eunice

And finally in you - not because of who your parents or grandparents are, but because of who they know - Jesus

Next in your children - not because they are yours, but because of Jesus

5When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.

Blessing of His gift of God - vs. 6-8

God wants to stir up in you ladies…

Motherly power

Voice, love, and touch - "…putting on of my hands." - 6

Motherly protection

Power of the Gospel -strength not fear

Love - expression, not just voice

Sound mind - teaching in every aspect (not just telling)

Motherly pride

Prayerful releasing (giving) to the Lord - not just bragging

Rejoicing in God's presence in our children

6Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.

7For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

8Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;

Blessing of His salvation is made available this day - vs. 9-10

Today is the day of salvation

Your choice today affects your children's choice tomorrow

9Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,

10But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:

As we get ready to end, I want you to pause and consider some things…

Mothers (and daughters and sons):

You are in a position of elevated power

Not to rule

To love

To guide

To protect

To share Christ and His love

You are responsible for your children (and theirs)

Teach

Train

Model for them Christ

Love, caring, integrity, unselfishness, love, etc.

You are called upon this day to stand worthy of your position in life. This is a position of power because God has given it to you. Be worthy of your title of Mother or as I like to say, mom.

Stand up for Jesus

Stand tall for Jesus

Stand straight (right) for Jesus

Are you living your life for the Lord?

Are you showing your children the love of Jesus?
