A Day In The Life Of The Master - Part 3:

On The Ground With Jesus, How Will He Change Our Lives?

INTRO: What would it have been like walking with the Lord? It would have been hard, dusty, and even difficult at times. It would have possibly been dangerous because of thieves, animals, terrain, weather, etc. there were times when it probably was "crowded" and others when there was solitude. No doubt there were stretches that were breath taking and others that were drab or non-descript. But that is not what would have made walking with Him great -- it would have been His presence that was enlightening and encouraging.

Two weeks ago we looked at Journeying Across Life's Seas With Jesus. We look at how we needed to be part of Jesus' crew. We saw how life can be successful through Him. We saw how our obedience to His commands bring great blessings. Surely we need to sail with the Lord in this day and age.

Last week, we looked at a few things we might have seen and learned or encountered had we walked along with Jesus during His ministry.

Today, I want to look at how our lives will be changed when we walk with Him.

We would have experienced many things. Foremost, one of the obvious was…

Great Power

Matthew 28:18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

It was Extreme whether in those days or today

Matthew 9:6 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house.

It was Unknown heretofore in the scope seen during His ministry

Luke 8:25 And he said unto them, Where is your faith? And they being afraid wondered, saying one to another, What manner of man is this! for he commandeth even the winds and water, and they obey him.

It had Lasting effects

John 17:2 As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.

It was Tremendous

Acts 10:38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

Because it was…

Prayer saturated

God aligned, supported, planned and approved

Lasting effects

Not to be overlooked would be the experience of…

Great Love

It was a…

Godly love in that it was Unfathomable

Ephesians 3:17 - 19 17That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, 18May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; 19And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.

Pure love in that it was Unselfish

John 15:13 13Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

Enduring love in that it was Unlimited

John 13:1 1Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.

Sharing love in that it was Useful

John 15:9 9As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.

Changing love that was urgent

John 14:23 23Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

The disciples were privy to…

Great Spiritual Training or Teaching

Matthew 5:1 - 16 1And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him: 2And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying, 3Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. 5Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. 6Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. 7Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. 8Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. 9Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. 10Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. 12Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you. 13Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. 14Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. 15Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. 16Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

The disciples were privy to…

Great Spiritual Training or Teaching

What a blessing sitting at the feet of Jesus and learning what He had to share!

It had to be…

Instructive at every step of the way (even when His goals slipped by us)

Enlightening to the point of enriching our lives

Edifying (building up) for our lives as we became better servants for Him

Clarifying or Life changing as we applied His teachings

An often-overlooked item was the experience of…

Great Peace

Some of the great advantages of walking with Jesus was the…

Soothing effects He could have in our everyday life

Luke 2:13 - 14 13And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, 14Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

Calming of the fears we face in life

Luke 1:78 - 79 78Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us, 79To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.

Comforting He affords to those in disarray

John 20:19 Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.

Restorative Healing He gives when we receive His touch

Romans 14:17 For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.

Peace prescribed by Him in our lives

Romans 8:6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

And last, in the end, they saw…

Great Sacrifice

When we walk with the Lord, we can sense and see the sacrifice He gave for each of us. It was and is…

Appropriate, because of His great love

2 Corinthians 8:19 19And not that only, but who was also chosen of the churches to travel with us with this grace, which is administered by us to the glory of the same Lord, and declaration of your ready mind:

Proper because of God's plan

Galatians 1:4 4Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father:

Curative because of His role as our sacrifice

Titus 2:14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

Convenient because of His closeness

John 10:18 18No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.

Worthy because He is qualified to forgive our sins

Ephesians 5:2 2And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.

What does this mean to us in this day and age?

2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
