Stepping Towards Sin - A Look At Samson

The Nature of Sin in our lives

Talk about what sin is…We often forget some of the sins in our lives and only remember the sins in other's lives

There is a plurality of sin

All have sinned

Rom 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

All have followed our way instead of God's

Is. 53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

All have uncleanness

Is. 64:6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

There is a penalty for sin - Judges 13:1

Sin is seen by God - Gen 6:5

Gen 6:5And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

Sin is known by God - 1 Tim 5:24

1 Tim 5:24 Some men’s sins are open beforehand, going before to judgment; and some men they follow after.

Nothing hidden, nothing traded (cancelled out) - except in Christ

Num 32:23 And they went from Kehelathah, and pitched in mount Shapher.

Sin is distasteful to God

Eph 4:22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;

Sin is penalized by God

Proverbs 11:19¹⁹As righteousness tendeth to life: so he that pursueth evil pursueth it to his own death.

Rom 6:23²³For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

There is a purpose to avoid sin -

It is forbidden to sin

Isaiah 1:16 Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil;

John 5:14 Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.

1 Cor 15:34Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame.

It is destructive to sin

Proverbs 8:36 But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death.

1 Chr 10:13 So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the LORD, even against the word of the LORD, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to inquire of it;

Avoiding sin pleases God

Isaiah 55:7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

Avoiding sin praises God

2 Peter 3:11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
