Old Times At New Beginnings Church
Part 3 - Old Fashioned, Honest To God, Without A Doubt, True Blue… Believers

INTRO: Two weeks ago we started a theme for the month of October. We recognized our fantastic seniors that are part of our fellowship and affirmed the strength of time proven service of the Lord along the "Old Ways." We looked at why they are so special to us, both individually and corporately as a church or body of believers. I thank God for our "Old Timers." They truly are good timers not just old timers!

Last week was "Old Hat Day." I never want our worship of the Lord to be "old hat." I never want our service for Him to be "old hat." I never want our love for each other to be "old hat." I never want New Beginnings to be just "old hat." Our love for the Lord, His House, His People should always be special in our eyes. Last week, I used for a thought, "Hats Off At New Beginnings." My hat continues to be off to all that are a part of our great fellowship of believers.

Today I want to use on this, "Old Fashioned Day," a message called, "Old Fashioned, True Blue, Honest To God, Without A Doubt… Believers."

1 Cor 3:9-11 For we are labourers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building.

10 According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.

11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

What does it mean to be Old Fashioned, Honest To God, Without A Doubt, True Blue…Believers?

I think we need changed lives, guided lives, victorious lives, helpful lives, uplifted lives, and stabilized lives.

First, we can see, in order to have a changed life we must grasp…

Salvation

Old Fashioned, Honest To God, Without A Doubt, True Blue… Salvation

Same plan

Same gospel

Same savior

Same need

Same reason

Same sacrifice

Eph 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

9Not of works, lest any man should boast.

10For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

Rom 5:8-9 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

9Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.

Rom 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Rom 10:9-10 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Next, we see, in order to have a guided life we must hold onto…

Sanctification

Old Fashioned, Honest To God, Without A Doubt, True Blue… Sanctification

Same separation (from the world)

Same God that requires holiness

Blessings for a holy life

Example for others to see

Same Word - helps cleanse

2 Tim 2:21-22 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.

22Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

John 17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

Eph 5:25-27 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

26That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

27That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

And we know that to have a victorious life we should be all that we can be as…

Soldiers for God's Army

Old Fashioned, Honest To God, Without A Doubt, True Blue… Soldiers for God's Army

Same enemy to fight

Same Commander-in-chief

Same weapons to win the war

Same determination to defeat the enemy

Same obedience to the cause

Eph 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Rev 12:11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

2 Cor 10:4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)

1 Tim 6:12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.

And, to live a helpful life we must maintain a…

Servant attitude

Old Fashioned, Honest To God, Without A Doubt, True Blue… Servant attitude

Same unselfishness

Same helpfulness (barn raisin's, crop gatherings, etc.)

Same willingness

Same honesty

Same love

Luke 10:30-37 And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.

31And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.

32And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side.

33But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,

34And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.

35And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee.

36Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves?

37And he said, He that showed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.

If we are ever going to have an uplifted life we must experience

Services that praise God

Old Fashioned, Honest To God, Without A Doubt, True Blue… Services that praise God

Same sacrifices

Same searching

Same attendance

Same spirit

Same joy

Luke 10:41-42Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.

39And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus’ feet, and heard his word.

40But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.

41And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:

42But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

Heb 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

John 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

Luke 24:52-53 And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy:

53And were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.

Last, if we obtain a stabilized life we need…

Strength in the Lord

Old Fashioned, Honest To God, Without A Doubt, True Blue… Strength in the Lord

Same prayer

Same study of God's Word

Same worship

Same preaching of the truth (like Paul)

Same intertwining dependence (Boys Scout carry)

(like palsied man borne of four)

Isaiah 41:10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

Acts 9:20 And straightway he preached Christ in the synagogues, that he is the Son of God.

Gal 6:10 As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.

Mark 2:3 And they come unto him, bringing one sick of the palsy, which was borne of four.
