"On Our Way To Spiritual Renewal At New Beginnings" Part 3
"So Which Self Shows Up Today?"
1 Cor. 10:1-15

INTRO: Two weeks ago I started a series. Our message was entitled, "Erase The Mark From The 'John Mark' In Your Lives." Basically I dealt with the theme of "Reclaiming The Confidence In Each Other So We Can Regaining The Proper Direction God Wants Us To Have." Last week I dealt with the theme, "Receiving the Chastening of the Lord with Joy, that We Might Gladly Remove the Carnality that Clings to our Life." My message was entitled, "Carnality or Holiness, Which will it be?"

Today, continuing on with the series, "On Our Way To Spiritual Renewal At New Beginnings," I want to use as a theme: Realigning our Ideas or Attitudes that are Contrary to the Spirit, That We Might Receive the Message of Reconciliation."

1 Corinthians 10 1Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; 2And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; 3And did all eat the same spiritual meat; 4And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ. 5But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.

6Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted. 7Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play. 8Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand. 9Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents. 10Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer. 11Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come. 12Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall. 13There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. 14Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.

15I speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say

There are basically two ways our self can live….When we let Self have his/her way, Self gets in the way or interferes. When He Leads Self, Self is on the right way, and lives a life of agreement and cooperation.

Plan to be self-aware

We will see a…

Lost state - without hope (except in Christ)

Lesson sent - to get our attention

Love's sacrifice - God is love

Problems of self-importance

Self-indulgence vs.6 -7

Self-gratification vs. 8

Self-willed vs. 9

Self-righteousness vs. 10

Prize of self-examination
It brings to us…

Self-comparison vs. 11

Self-denial vs. 12

Self-control vs. 13

Self-assurance vs. 15 (because of Him)

So when it comes to self, we need to see an…

Emergence of self-awareness that will cause us to get the Lord's help

End of self-importance that properly align our attitude toward God's help.

Exercise of self-examination that will cause us to apply God's help in our lives.

Basically, it all boils down to will we trust God or trust self?

Will we lean on self or lean on God?

Will we please self, or will we please God???

It is all left up to you. Which one will you do???

Which self shows up today?
