Right Guard

Ezekiel 38:7

Eze. 18:7 Be thou prepared, and prepare for thyself, thou, and all thy company that are assembled unto thee, and be thou a guard unto them.

Intro: We need the Right Guard. No not deodorant, but a Guard that will watch over our loved ones and us. We need to fill this spot ourselves. We have a job in life. Whether it is our responsibilities to our families, our friends, our co-workers or those we meet everyday in life, we must meet that responsibility. The scripture I read today, tells us to be a Guard to those around us.

What is a Guard? What do we need to do? What's in it for us? These are questions that arise when we think of this. How many guards can you think of in life? Let's try…

Football guard, basketball guard, National guard, edge guard, security guard, teeth guard, Hall monitor (guard), prison guard, armed guard, shin guard, chin guard, finger, nose guards, table cloths, shoes, clothes, safety glasses, earplugs, insurance policies, locks and chains, and lest I forget… Deodorant, Yeah, Right Guard!…so we could go on and on, right? So these guards are important aren't they? They are used to protect important things in our lives.

A Guard is used for different things. Brother Hulon and Brother Tim often tell the other that they have each other's back. What do they mean? Basically they are watching out for one another, praying for one another, etc. This is the type of Guards we need. The type of Guard I want to examine is one who protects, watches over, watches out for and directs those to safe places. A good Guard cares not how or if it benefits him or her, but how it helps those they protect. So what do we need to do as a guard? I hope to help answer this question with the message today. Let us begin…

As the right guard we must be…

Godly in character

Self denial

Sin removal

Strength gained and shared

And to be effective a guard should be…

Under control

Temperate

Truthful

Tireless (awake)

This brings me to my next point, one should be…

Alert continually

Prepared - to serve, save, send

Providing -help

Promoting - the Savior, salvation, and sanctification

A guard also must be…

Ready to contribute

Example

Encouragement

Enlightenment (teach why dangers are dangerous)

And last, a guard should be…

Delighted to cry out

Correctly (truthful teaching)

Concerned warning

Clemency offer of the Lord
