Choices, Choices, Choices!
Life is full of choices in our life. Although they don't start as much in our early life, they make up a great part of our latter life. Will I go to school or work today? To church? What do you want to eat? To drink? To wear? etc. We have to make choices! Don't we?
"I don't care, surprise me." This seems to be a favorite saying of many. What about, "you choose for me, it doesn't matter."
All these are examples of how we approach decisions in our everyday life. Do you ever flip a coin? Toss a die to see what to do? We need to make good choices with our lives and make them now! We need to know that our choices are important. They affect our everyday life, they affect our future, they affect our friends, family and even strangers.
Deuteronomy 30:14-20 But the word is very nigh unto thee, in thy mouth, and in thy heart, that thou mayest do it.
15See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil;
16In that I command thee this day to love the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his judgments, that thou mayest live and multiply: and the LORD thy God shall bless thee in the land whither thou goest to possess it.
17But if thine heart turn away, so that thou wilt not hear, but shalt be drawn away, and worship other gods, and serve them;
18I denounce unto you this day, that ye shall surely perish, and that ye shall not prolong your days upon the land, whither thou passest over Jordan to go to possess it.
19I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:
20That thou mayest love the LORD thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he is thy life, and the length of thy days: that thou mayest dwell in the land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.
Joshua 24:15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
As we get into the message, many will ask…
Why make a decision? Why even take the time, why not let "fate" rule?
God requires it of us! -- vs. 15
God expects the right one. -- 16
God blesses the right decision
Salvation - eternal life and blessings
Safety – extended life with it's blessings
Successors - elation at life and it's blessings
Some may think…
What is THE DECISION?
Will we follow God and His ways or Will we accept Christ?
It is not a hidden decision -- 11
It is not hard to locate -- 12-13
It is in the heart! -- 14
Others may even wonder…
Can I really make this decision or has God made it for me?
God has set the choice before you. -- 15
God has commanded you serve Him this day. -- 16
God has given you the choice to make! -- 17
Some may nervously ask…
What happens if I make the wrong choice? What are the consequences?
You will be removed (cut-off) from God. -- 17-18
You will have no reprieve -- 19a
You will regret your choice eternally!
Okay, you ask…
What does God want me to do anyway?
Choose life that you might live! -- 19b
Choose life today! -- READ Heb. 3:7-19
The author of Hebrews reminds us the need to choose promptly
Hebrews 3:7- 19 Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice,
8Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness:
9When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works forty years.
10Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways.
11So I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.)
12Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.
13But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.
14For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end;
15While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.
16For some, when they had heard, did provoke: howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses.
17But with whom was he grieved forty years? was it not with them that had sinned, whose carcases fell in the wilderness?
18And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not?
19So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.
And we need to…
Continue for Him. -- 20
But, Bro. Gary, I have made the right choice a long time ago,
Do I still have choices to make with my life?
YES
Choose to continue as His obedient servant
Choose to carry out His work
Choose to convince others of His love for them
Choose to confer Him to your loved ones
