How Can We Topple Or Defeat Sin's Grip On Our Lives?
INTRO: This past week we have seen history in the making. In Baghdad we have seen a regime die. We have seen a change take place. We have seen the beginnings of a new life for a persecuted people. We have seen them cast off from their lives a cancer that has killed them.
We can do the same today. Those that have been hurt by sin can rid themselves of the rampages of sin. They can revel in the newfound freedom that awaits them. We can topple the grip of sin from our lives.
Heb. 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
3 For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.
First we must…
Recognize sin's effects
Destroys good lives
Damages relationships (with God and others)
Detrimental to our health
Dilutes our good intentions
Deflects our efforts to change
Just as the Iraqi people needed it, we must…
Recruit the needed help
[Just as those trying to tear down the statue needed help, we need His help to achieve a victory over sin]
Trust the Lord for salvation
Acts 4: 12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
Try Him for strength
Thank Him for His sacrifice
Test Him for satisfaction
Mt. 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
It is only when you have a desire to accept Him in you r life you can…
Rebuild your life with Godly guidance
2 Cor 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
You can have a…
New beginning
New start
New heart
New hope
New outlook
New look
New attitude
New patience
New happiness
New peace
New home
New friends
New family
New Master
New eternal dwelling place
Rev. 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.
2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.
4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
5 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.
6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.
7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.
8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
Do you want to stay the way you are?
There is an opportunity to rid yourselves of the destructiveness of sin.
You can topple the effects of it upon your life.
You can gain salvation if you will call upon the Lord.
