Without Him We Are Nothing
Mark 8:22 And he cometh to Bethsaida; and they bring a blind man unto him, and besought him to touch him.
23And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw ought.
24And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking.
25After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly.
26And he sent him away to his house, saying, Neither go into the town, nor tell it to any in the town.
27And Jesus went out, and his disciples, into the towns of Caesarea Philippi: and by the way he asked his disciples, saying unto them, Whom do men say that I am?
28And they answered, John the Baptist: but some say, Elias; and others, One of the prophets.
29And he saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Peter answereth and saith unto him, Thou art the Christ.
30And he charged them that they should tell no man of him.
31And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.
32And he spake that saying openly. And Peter took him, and began to rebuke him.
33But when he had turned about and looked on his disciples, he rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behind me, Satan: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men.
34And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
35For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel’s, the same shall save it.
36For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
37Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
38Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.
There are seven truths I want us to find today…
No. 1…
Without His touch, we are "blind" - vs. 22
Matt. 13:11-16 He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. 12For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath. 13Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. 14And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive: 15For this people’s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them. 16But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear.
Many are blind because of the degrading effects of sin in their lives
Many are blind because of the deafness of their ears
Many are blind because they close their eyes from the truth
No. 2…
Without His guidance we often give up - vs. 25
He only saw their burden or labor (like trees - bundles of branches)
With Christ's touch He saw them and their need
(He will help us see others' need clearly)
No. 3…
Without His presence in our lives, He is just another prophet or name to those around us - vs. 28
We are the salt of the world - we can make a difference
We are the light of the world
We are like a candle that can light up the corners of their souls
No. 4…
Without His suffering we are not "rescueable " - vs. 31-33
We see a great cost was paid for our redemption
We see a great commitment by Him to offer Himself as our perfect sacrifice
No. 5…
Without His example for our lives we follow only weak ideals - vs. 34
We follow by selection (choice - whosoever will)
We follow by surrender (deny himself)
We follow by starting (take up your cross)
No. 6…
Without His cross for us to bear, we gain nothing vs. 35-37
Nothing worth any soul
Nothing worth your soul
Nothing worth your friends souls
Nothing worth your families' souls
No. 7…
Without His rescue we are ashamed - vs. 38
We are ashamed of Him
What is our being ashamed of Him?
Failure to believe enough on Him to rescue you.
Failure to ask Him into your life as your Lord and Savior
These make us ashamed!
What is our rescue? What do I mean?
We are rescued by being saved (gloriously) from an eternal separation from God
Our rescue is the process of our calling upon Him to save us, knowing we are unable to do so we must depend upon Him!
We must ACKNOWLEDGE we are separated from God, that we are sinners in need of salvation - We must ASK Him to forgive us.
We must BELIEVE that He is able to forgive us of our sins because He died for us on Calvary as our sacrifice.
We must CONFESS Him as our savior and CONFESS Him to others.
