What Is Real Thanksgiving In Our Lives?
Lu. 17 11And it came to pass, as he went to Jerusalem, that he passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee. 12And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off: 13And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us. 14And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go show yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed. 15And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God, 16And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan. 17And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine? 18There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger. 19And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole.

Action of literally giving thanks to God
What are people thankful for in their lives?
Almost everyone is thankful of the basics…
Life (itself)
Health (just reasonable amount)
Walk
Talk
See
Smell
Work, etc.
Family
Friends
Sustenance
Phil. 4:11 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.
Country - I am more than proud to be an American, I am happy and thankful…
Liberty
Principles
Religious liberty
Plentiful blessings
What more things do we have to be especially thankful?
Special health
Lack of major health concerns - us/children, etc.
Qualified medical help (if we are sick)
Increase of Age
Our senses being in good shape
Memory
Lack of pain
Financial blessings - compared to our upbringing, most of us are BLESSED!
Extras
Home - compared to the homeless (Christ no place to lay his head)
Car(s)
"Toys"
Medicine - what a blessing, compared to 50 years ago
Nice clothes, etc.
Protection by God - not from recklessness
Church - opportunity; freedom; God's Word; fellowship
Christ (we should be)
Willing to die for us
Wanting to save us
Now I want to change pace and look at…
How do most people say thanks? Or What do they do to show thanksgiving to God?
Which one of the ten are you?
The ones who never stopped and praised God for His blessings?
The one who returned and said thank you?
How do you convey to God your appreciation?
Lu. 14: 16Then said he unto him, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many: 17And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready. 18And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused. 19And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused. 20And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come. 21So that servant came, and showed his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind. 22And the servant said, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room. 23And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled. 24For I say unto you, That none of those men which were bidden shall taste of my supper.
Let me share how I see many "thank" God…
Health to work and enjoy life
Many abuse and harm their bodies
(what if we took a valuable gift from some one and abused it?)
Work themselves to "death"
Work seven days a week
Too busy to worship God (working out, beauty salons, waxing cars, etc.)
Too busy to thank God (ditto)
Finances to enjoy life and some luxuries
Buy a car
Buy a house
Buy a boat
Buy another car
Buy a vacation house
Buy a motor home
Buy a bigger boat
Of course we do not have time to thank God for these, we have to be about our business of enjoying these.
None of these are all that bad, but instead of spending time getting close to God, these are all used to further distance us from Him.
Even to the point that we have to be busy earning money to get and use these (instead of thanking Him).
Children - what a blessing!
Yet we do not thank God, nor give them to God (maybe on the surface).
Nor teach them God's ways
Nor instill into them thankfulness for what God can do for us.
Yet we often use them as a reason for not worshipping God.
They were ill - I am OK with that. Stay home and help them get well.
They had homework - what else does that stop you from doing?
So what we have is something like…
Shopping at the Circle City Mall Friday evening
State Park Saturday morning
Visited friends Saturday evening
"Tommy" had too much homework to do for us to come to church…
They did not want to come - do we let them stay home from school?, etc.
Do we let our kids run our household? Don't answer that.
Land - we let our chores, etc. prevent us from spending time to thank God.
Bride - Again we do not thank God like we should.
What Is Real Thanksgiving In Our Lives? If we do not praise/thank God, someone else will!
Lu. 19: 36And as he went, they spread their clothes in the way. 37And when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen; 38Saying, Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest. 39And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, Master, rebuke thy disciples. 40And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out.
Should we hold our peace or praise and thank God???
It is not the big meal once a year
It is not the turkey, dressing, or even the pumpkin pie
It is not a casual thanks
It is not sending God a thank you card
It is not even showing up on Sunday
It is continually reflecting and honestly saying:
Thank You God!
And with our lives conveying it in what we do for Him!
