Naaman's Plight
2 Kings 5:1-17
Naaman was a great man - vs. 1 [We meet so many great men/women]
- Loyal to his master
- Honorable
- Man of valor
Naaman had a large problem, he was a leper [Parallel to sin]
- Leprosy separates
- Leprosy consumes
- Leprosy kills
Naaman's wealth was of little value [inability to remedy sin ourselves]
- Unable to cure self
- Unable to cure others
- Unable to escape it
God's man (Elisha) was able to answer the call - vs. 8 [rescue from sin]
- Hear the message
- Hear from God's man
- Have hope
God's cure is not always fancy - vs. 9 [Sin's cure is Christ]
Many are…
- Willing to do great things
- Worried with physical outward appearances
- Willing to trust the ways of man (our own rivers)
Naaman listened to sound counsel - vs. 13 [Jesus is the easy answer]
- God really required little
- God freely gave
- God really was (is) worth a try
Naaman said thanks - vs. 15 [Jesus makes the difference]
- God became real to him
- God was worthy of praise
- God had changed his life - vs. 17
(no more false god worship)
What lessons can be learned:
- Don't give up hope, someone is praying (maiden)
- Never underestimate God
- Never judge a book by its cover (Elisha was not flashy - just right)
- Never quit early (Naaman dipped seven times)
