Five Examples Christ Set For The Church
2 Cor. 5:20; John 13:15; 1 Pet. 2:20

2 Cor. 5:20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.

John 13: 15 For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.

1 Pet 2: 21 For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:

Christ wants us to be a…

Praying Church

Matt. 21: 13 And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.

* Christ spent much time in prayer. Public and private - Before walking on the water - prayed all night.

Helping Church

Matt. 11: 28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

* Christ helped people all through His ministry. Often people that were shunned. Samaritan woman at the well. The Possessed Gadarean, etc.

Worshipping Church

John 4: 21 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father.

22 Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.

23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.

24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

* Christ was not exempt from worshipping His Father. Should we be?

Friendly Church

John 15: 12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.

13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.

* Friendly is more than a handshake. Or even a smile. It also involves love. This is the best example we can set for our guests that we are friendly.

Children's Church (children in church)

Mark 10:13 And they brought young children to him, that he should touch them: and his disciples rebuked those that brought them.

14 But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.

15 Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.

16 And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them.

* It is extremely important that we care about children - not just for our continued survival, but because they are worthy of our caring, just as Christ cared.

As we show forth the examples in our lives and in our church, I want to share some things I want people saying about our church when they leave. Put your name in the first two blanks.

Boy! _________________________ goes to a nice church.

_____________________________ has a nice church.

Their church looks nice, it is a beautiful place to worship.

The people are so thoughtful.

The singing is so inspiring.

The people are so friendly.

The people seem so dedicated (to Christ).

They pray.

I feel like I am wanted there.

I feel they want to help me.

They worship God.

I feel warmth, love like people really care.

I see a lot of children there.

People look excited about being there.

Most of all, when they are here and when they leave, I want them to be thinking…

I want to know this Jesus they talk about.
