Tabitha, A Mother That Trusted What The Lord
Can Do
Acts 9:36-43
INTRO: What do we remember about our mothers? Mothers, what are you
doing for your children? Yes I know you all do and have done much, but
there is more to do than clothe, cook and care for your children! Tabitha
was an unselfish mother that made it to the scripture's "Hall of Fame
for Mothers." Are you the mother Tabitha was? Are you the mother God
desires you to be?
I. Tabitha was a great example for mothers -
(vs. 36)
IF we have more "Tabithas," we can see…
-
Better and more devoted mothers (that are Believers/Disciples)
-
Good mothers that are "Full of Good Works"
-
Caring mothers that have many "Charitable Deeds"
-
Honored mothers that help others
II. Tabitha became ill… - (vs. 37)
This shows us that…
-
Mothers are not perfect
-
Mothers are not superwomen nor invincible
(Had she spent her money for others and not received medical care?????)
ILL. - Share Bro. Paul Thompson's story of his mother and apples
-
Mothers need a higher power to help with their problems
III. Tabitha affected others' lives -
(vs. 39)
We get a glimpse of…
-
Real role of mothers are to be great helpers
-
She caused joy (thus sadness at her passing)
-
She was a "provider" of "coats and garments" (at great cost to her)
-
A Nurturer
-
A Protector
-
A Provider
-
An Adviser
IV. God Sent her help in the form of the Apostle
Peter - (38-40)
(DADS! This is an example of how we can help others)
As we look at Simon Peter, we see he did four things… vs. 40a
-
Isolated himself from distractions (put them all forth)
I can think of three things he needed to place behind himself…
-
Personal feelings versus God's will
-
Plentiful possessions of this world versus heavenly goods
-
Practical solutions versus faith in God's decisions
HOW CAN WE REACH GOD IF WE ARE DISTRACTED WITH THE WORLD?
-
Humbly positioned himself for a godly discussion - he meant business
-
Poured out himself for her deliverance (prayed)
-
Turned himself showing a demonstration of faith (turned)
V. What was her response? (Vs.
40 b - 42)
As we look at this compare your response to God's call and help to
you!
-
She was mindful/aware of God's rescue - are you aware of His rescue for
you?
-
She noted the godly example Simon Peter provided - see the examples of
Christ, your own mothers, and others that are before you!
-
She acted on his recommendation - Are you rejecting what God has for you?
-
She let Christ show forth - Are you letting others know about Him?
