What Do We Need To Receive From Christ?

Intro.: Last week I looked at "Palms" we need to give to Christ. I dealt with our need to have a servant attitude toward Him. This week I want to look at things we need to have from Him. Things we need to receive from Him. When Christ arose, He had some things that He wanted us to have. Last week I said we needed to get away from the "Gimme, gimme, gimme" attitude. This does not mean we do not need to run from the things Christ wants us to have.

  1. Hope in the promises and claims made

    1. Christ claimed to know God - Lu. 22:69

    2. 69 Hereafter shall the Son of man sit on the right hand of the power of God.

    3. Christ claimed to be the very Son of God Mt. 10:31-33

    4. Mat 10:31 Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.

32 Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.

10:33 But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.

    5. Christ claimed to be the Messiah - Lu. 4:18

    6. Luke 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

    7. Christ promised to arise - Jn. 2:19

    8. John 2:19 Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.

    9. Christ promised to send the Comforter - Jn. 20:22

    10. John 20:22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy host:

    11. Christ claimed to have all power - Mt. 28:18

    12. Mat 28:18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

    13. Christ claimed to be the way - Jn. 14:6-7

    14.
John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

7 If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.

  2. Hope in the lessons taught

    1. Christ taught the disciples and changed their lives
    2. Is available for a personal relationship with Him (Mary Magdalene) Jn. 20:16

    3. John 20:16 Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master.

    4. Christ taught those on the way to Emmaus Lu. 24:13-32

    5. Lu. 24: 13 And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about threescore furlongs.
14 And they talked together of all these things which had happened.
15 And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them.
16 But their eyes were holden that they should not know him.
17 And he said unto them, What manner of communications are these that ye have one to another, as ye walk, and are sad?
18 And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said unto him, Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which are come to pass there in these days?
19 And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people:
20 And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and have crucified him.
21 But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done.
      22 Yea, and certain women also of our company made us astonished, which were early at the sepulchre;
23 And when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, which said that he was alive.
24 And certain of them which were with us went to the sepulchre, and found it even so as the women had said: but him they saw not.
25 Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:
26 Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?
27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.
28 And they drew nigh unto the village, whither they went: and he made as though he would have gone further.
29 But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us: for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them.
30 And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them.
31 And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.
32 And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?

    6. They had hope in an earthly kingdom Lu. 24:21

    7. 21 But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done.

    8. Help with problems in our lives (Mother this is your son, John, this is your mother) - Jn. 19:26-27

    9.
John 19:26 When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son!
27 Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.

  3. Hope In a "Heavenly Abode" Jn 14:1-4; Acts 1:11

  4.  John 14:1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
4 And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.

Acts 1:11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

    1. He has went to prepare a place for us
    2. We can go there
    3. It will be good
    4. It will stay good!

  5. Hope in the message, HE IS RISEN, THE TOMB IS EMPTY, HE IS COMING AGAIN!!!!
