Watch and Pray
Series: What Would Jesus Desire? - Part 2
Mark 13:33-37; 14:38

INTRO: What would Jesus do? On of the new sayings that has swept our society today. While not detracting from the question, I want you to consider over the next several weeks another similar question -- WHAT WOULD JESUS DESIRE? Let us face it all of us look at Jesus as one who can do much more than we can. One who will always do the right thing. One who knows what to do, and does it! The question is, what will we do with Him? For Him? And through Him?????? WHAT DOES HE DESIRE FOR OUR LIVES?

The last time I preached, I used for a thought, Who Do You Say He Is? My two main points were, first we must Recognize Him as the Christ and second, we should Place Him First in our lives. Today I will continue in our series -- WHAT WOULD JESUS DESIRE?

Mark 13: 33 Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is.
34 For the Son of man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch.
35 Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning:
36 Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping.
37And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch.

Mark 14: 38 Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.

  1. What He desires when we watch, we…
    1. Learn His way
    2. Avoid needless failures
    3. Improve our spiritual life
    4. Warn others of dangers (in love)
    5. Help our neighbors

  2. He does NOT desire us to…
    1. WAIT and pray
    2. WISH and pray
    3. WANT and pray
    4. WORK and pray
    5. WANDER and pray

  3. When we watch, He desires us to pray for…
    1. Help to serve
    2. Closeness to Him
    3. Usability
    4. Awareness and readiness (of expediency)
    5. Empathetic insight (of people's need … for Christ)
    6. Love
    7. Others

  4. He does NOT desire us to…
    1. Watch and POINT (an accusing finger)
    2. Watch and PRETEND (to be better than others)
    3. Watch and PRONOUNCE (judgment)
    4. Watch and PASS (until we get a better offer
    5. Watch and PREY (on others)
    6. Watch and PLAY (the ways of the world)
