Who Do You Say He Is?
Series: What Would Jesus Desire? - Part 1
Matt. 11:27-30; 16:13-17; 23-26

Matt. 11: 27 All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.
28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Matt. 16: 13 When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?
14 And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.
15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?
16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.

INTRO: What would Jesus do? On of the new sayings that has swept our society today. While not detracting from the question, I want you to consider over the next several weeks another similar question -- WHAT WOULD JESUS DESIRE? Let us face it all of us look at Jesus as one who can do much more than we can. One who will always do the right thing. One who knows what to do, and does it! The question is, what will we do with Him? For Him? And through Him??????
 

WHAT DOES HE DESIRE FOR OUR LIVES?

Jesus desires that we…Recognize Him as more than a great teacher, prophet, man, philosopher, miracle worker, etc. More than an individual that espouses ideas that make us feel good about God, ourselves and others. But as Peter did...

  1. Recognize Him as the Christ, the Son of the Living God!

    1. By the witness in God's Word
    2. By the witness in His deeds
    3. By the witness in our hearts by the Holy Spirit
    4. By the witness in our everyday walk

    Matt. 16:23 But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.
    24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
    25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.
    26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

  1. Place Him first in our lives
    1. He wants us to care about things of God - 23
    2. He wants us to come after Him - 24
    3. He want us to deny ourselves - 24
    4. He wants us to take up OUR cross - 24
    5. He wants us to follow Him - 24
    6. He wants us to lose our life for Him and find it.


Who is Jesus to you?
