What Do We Need In And Around
The Pulpit In Our Life And Times?
2 Tim. 4:2-5; Titus 1:6-9
2 Tim. 4:1 I charge thee therefore
before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the
dead at his appearing and his kingdom;
2 Preach the word; be instant
in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering
and doctrine.
3 For the time will come when
they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they
heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
4 And they shall turn away
their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
5 But watch thou in all things,
endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy
ministry.
Titus 1:6 If any be blameless,
the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or
unruly.
7 For a bishop must be blameless,
as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine,
no striker, not given to filthy lucre;
8 But a lover of hospitality,
a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate;
9 Holding fast the faithful
word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both
to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.
Intro: What do we need in the pulpits of
our churches today? How do we more effectively reach the lost? How do we
as Pastors/Preachers motivate and encourage those that make up our congregations
to become stronger, closer servants for the Lord? I have four main questions
I want to examine today.
First, …
I. What do we need to do while we
are in the pulpit?
In the Pulpit, we need men of God who:
-
Carry God’s Word to the world.
-
Convince the church to respond to God’s call.
-
Care about people.
-
Challenge the lost to repent.
-
Clearly convey God’s message that will change lives.

To ponder: "I need to do better in the pulpit of Christ that I fill."

II. How do Christians need to behave
around the pulpit?
Around the Pulpit, we need:
-
Concerned Christians that pray and talk to God.
-
Concerned Christians that are present and ready to worship.
-
Concerned Christians who listen for and accept God’s guidance through
His Word.
-
Concerned Christians who have the right temperament.
-
Concerned Christians who set an example with their lives.
-
Concerned Christians who are an encouragement to all they touch.
-
Concerned Christians who will hold up the hands of their Pastor. - Ex.
17:12
To ponder: "I need to be more concerned around the pulpit of
Christ." Yes/No
Another question we must ask, …
III. Who do we need to meet, know,
lead, and attract to the pulpit?
In front of the Pulpit, we need:
-
People who are hungry.
-
People who are willing to listen.
-
People who realize God's correction on their lives.
-
People who apply God’s Word.
-
People who are in need (not perfect).
To ponder: "I do my part to meet, know, lead, and attract and
point people to the pulpit in Christ's church." Yes/No
And we must also ask ourselves, …
IV. What do people need to see when
we step out of the pulpit?
Behind or away from the Pulpit, we need servants
who:
-
Study God's Word for His message to us.
-
Believe God's Word applies to their lives.
-
Care about the universal and the local church (without jealousy).
-
Current church and the coming church;
-
Charitable saints and the cranky saints;
-
Consecrated and those that are coasting;
-
Are powerful prayer warriors that perceive and feel the needs and hurts
of their people.
-
Trust God's provisions in their personal lives.
-
Are men of conscious that walk a godly life in front of others.
-
Let Christ live in them before all men.
To ponder: "When people see me away
from the pulpit of Christ, they witness Christ in my life." Yes/No
