Sometimes, we look like wheat…
Matt. 13:24-30; 3:12

INTRO: Wheat! How beautiful it is in the field! Not only while it is green and growing and getting ready to bear fruit, but also when it is ready for harvest.

24 Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field:
25 But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.
26 But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also.
27 So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares?
28 He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up?
29 But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them.
30 Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.

  1. God has sown His seed for (in) us

  2. He has sown…

    1. God's Word
      1. Powerful
      2. Penetrating
      3. Producing)
    2. God's Love
      1. Universal
      2. Understanding
      3. Uttermost
    3. God's Work
      1. Satisfying
      2. Strengthening
      3. Sustaining
  3. Satan sows his "tares"

  4.

    1. He sows attitudes that are sinful. (Pro. 6:16-23)

    2.

16 These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:
17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,
19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.
20 My son, keep thy father's commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother:
21 Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck.
22 When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.
23 For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:

      1. A proud look
      2. A lying tongue
      3. Hands that shed innocent blood
      4. A heart that makes evil plans
      5. Feet that are swift to find trouble
      6. False witness
      7. Those that sow or cause discord among the brethren

    3. He sows acceptance to those attitudes.

Is that not as bad as doing many of them??????

  5. The "tares" will NOT go unnoticed
    1. God knows they are there
    2. They are noticeable if we are looking for them
    3. They are not acceptable

Which brings us to the next point…
  6. The "tares" and chaff (Mt. 3:12) will NOT stand the test of God
    1. Sin will be punished
    2. Self-righteousness will not count for anything (chaff) good.

12 Whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.

  7. The wheat WILL be gathered in
    1. To a great place
    2. Where God will be
    3. Where Christ will be
    4. Where His saints (wheat) will be
Several observations I have noticed about wheat…

There are very few that stand up where they can be noticed.

They are there to bear fruit.

They hold their fruit up where it is safe.

They do not grow on rocky ground

They do better when they have wheat all around to help prevent "tares."
