The Involvement of Moses
Exodus 18
INTRO: We need fathers today that care about
how their children are. How they will be for God. How they will treat their
children. If we look at Moses' children, we find that he was less than
a good father. He was TOO busy! It took his father-in-law Jethro to get
him to slow down for himself (and his family). If we read Ex. 4:24-26 we
find that Moses was sick unto death and God was chastising him for not
circumcising his sons. Zipporah saved his life when she did circumcised
her sons, but she went back home. Ex. 18 tells us a little about their
reunion.
Read Ex. 18:1-27
-
Fathers need to be involved with their
kids' lives!
-
They need to provide financial provision
(not saturation)
-
They need to offer emotional support.
-
They need to example and encourage Spiritual
growth.
-
They need to have a physical presence.
-
They need to use a continual examination.
-
Fathers often let involvement suffer.
Fathers do these…
-
They Abdicate their responsibility to
moms.
-
They place personal preferences, hobbies,
"nothing times," over their children.
-
The put-off or postpone to a less busy
time.
-
Place business in front of family, God,
self.
-
Fathers can make a difference in their
kids' lives.
We need to…
-
Recognize the worth of a father
-
Determine to give your time
to your spouse (can't be a good father if not a good husband).
-
Determine to give time to your
children, grandchildren, etc.
-
Determine to give time to God
(can't be a good father if not a good servant).
