"On Our Way To Spiritual Renewal At East 38th Street"  Part 2
"Carnality or Holiness, Which will it be?"
Rom. 7:13-25, Heb. 12

INTRO: Last week I started a seriesOur message was entitled, "Erase The Mark From The 'John Mark' In Your Lives." Basically I dealt with the theme of "Reclaiming The Confidence In Each Other So We Can Regaining The Proper Direction God Wants Us To Have." Today I want to deal with the theme, "Receiving the Chastening of the Lord with Joy, that We Might Gladly Remove the Carnality that Clings to our Life."

Specifically I want to use as a thought: "Carnality or Holiness, Which will it be?"

  1. Carnality exists in our lives - vs. 13
    1. It is not pleasing to God
    2. It is destructive to our lives (And our families)

  2. Carnality can rule our lives - vs. 15
    1. When we allow carnality a chance to lead us , it will take over.
    2. Even Paul recognized how carnality can point us the wrong way.

  3. It is God's desire that we walk NOT in sin! 8:1-9
    1. God hates sin
    2. God demands holiness

    Definition: Chastening (chastening, instruction, nurture)

  4. God will chasten us when we need it. Heb 12:5-6
    1. Just like a loving father
    2. For our own good

  5. God's Chastening can be strong when needed vs. 5-7
    1. Don't faint when He corrects us!
    2. He chastens us because we are His sons!

  6. God's Chastisement demands our subservience vs. 9
    1. Do we desire or seek Him
    2. Do we desire to serve Him as well?

  7. God's chastisement helps bring us to holier living vs. 10
    1. For our own good vs. 10
    2. Not for God's pleasure or just to be doing so.

  8. Gladly receive God's chastisements vs. 11-16
    1. This is when God can get close to us and us to Him - vs. 16
    2. God will help you!
