What Would You Have Me Do Lord?
Matt. 19:16-30

INTRO: What do you want me to do? Have you ever felt that way? Standing around and unsure what to do? Willing, but just waiting for direction! Today I want to look at a young man that had that very opinion, He approached Christ about what he could do!
 

  1. What Good thing can you do?


    2. So we are looking legalistically Or can we be good enough?

    1. Keep the commandments?
The commandments deal with basically two things -

Our relationship with God and our relationship with man.

(Mat 22:37) Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
(38) This is the first and great commandment.
(39) And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
(40) On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
 
    1. Keep which commandments?
Thou shalt do no murder
Thou shalt not commit adultery
Thou shalt not steal
Thou shalt not bear false witness
Honour thy father and thy mother
Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself

(Summation of all these!)

 So if we are to do what He wants from us we will be right towards our neighbor! He did not deal with our relationship with God, but with people.
  1. What extra thing(s) can you do?


    2. Christ wants us to follow Him, thus we need to remove what hinders that.

    1. Give your riches to the poor?



      2. What is that representative of?

      1. Eliminating things that prevent our good service
        1. First, we must look at and examine those things honestly
          1. Friendships
          2. Possessions
          3. Habits
          4. Selfishness
          5. Laziness
          6. Unconcerned
          7. Saved?
          8. Etc.

        2. Second, we must be willing to let them go!
        Not only should we be willing to eliminate things that prevent our good service, but we should also be…
      2. Entrusting God wholly for our substance
        1. We cling to things that will corrode
        2. We fret over things that we cannot change

    2. Follow him?
      1. Enlisted in His service
        1. Is He calling you today?
        2. Does His word direct you toward a greater service today?

      2. Entrusted to help those around us
        1. God wants us to be a sharing witness!
        2. God wants us to be a good example
        3. God wants us to be His conscientious servants
        4. God wants us to be helpful
        5. God wants us to be ready to go!
