Gifts to Keep and Gifts to Use - Part. 1
1 Cor. 12

INTRO: 1 Cor. 12:31 But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet show I unto you a more excellent way. This scripture needs to be our goal. We as a church need to want the best that God has for us.

Starting a two-part message today I want to examine how God feels about Spiritual Gifts. What does He tell us? What does He expect from us? How should we approach this matter?

  1. Gifts are diverse vs. 4-7

  2. As evidenced in scripture…

    1. Different Gifts - 4
    2. Different Abilities – 5
    3. Different Approaches – 6
    4. Same Goal - 7

  3. Glimpse of the Gifts 28-31

  4. God’s wisdom can be seen…

    1. Many and varied – greater reach
    2. Many and valuable – effective for God’s work
    3. Many and venerable (esteemed) - important
    4. Many and vibrant - alive

  5. God’s Design for the Gifts

  6. God uses(d) gifts …

    1. Assistance for the Saints
    2. Announcement to the Jews
    3. Addition to the Church
    4. Adjustment of the Workers - helps keep them on track

  7. Give our Gift the importance it is due

  8. It is important as it…

    1. Strengthens others with ourselves – like twisted strands -
    2. Unites believers together - Less schism - 25
    3. Makes us more complete
    4. Makes us more dependent on the Lord and each other
