David a Model Youth?
PART TWO: "ADVENTURES HE EXPERIENCED"

RESPONSIBILITIES HE EARNED:

"I want more freedom!" How many times do we hear this echoed by teens (either aloud or in the confines of their own private mind). It is only natural for everyone to desire more independence, more freedom to choose their own way, more every day decisions, and the right to make their own mistakes.

One must remember however that making important decisions involves very complicated introspection and examination of all the circumstances involved. "I can make the best decisions/choices in my own life!" While that may appear true on the surface, we often make poor and unadvised choices because of inexperience, emotional, and pressured choices.

So what are we to do? earn our right to make choices by becoming more responsible and able to take care of ourselves after learning more what the real world is really like!

RESCUES HE UNDERTOOK

David of course rescued the Israelites form the Philistines many times. Goliath was his most well known such episode. He told of how he rescued his sheep. He later became a great fight for his people to rally around. The opposing army feared him and often fled before him.

We would do well to be a rescuer of those that need our help. Fellow youth that are struggling in the pressure filled life that we now live, a discouraged friend, a youth group that needs dedicated workers willing to take up the sling and tackle giants, a church that needs dedicated younger workers to take up the reins of servitude etc.

So who can we rescue today? Remember we must first be able to take care of ourselves!

PROBLEMS HE FOUGHT

So you think that you have friends that are mean to you? Try walking in David’s sandals for a while. Yeah he had Jonathan and some of the men that followed with him, but look who he had against him...Saul and all of his army. They hounded him, hounded him, and hounded him some more! Saul had a habit of "playing" with spears when David was around.

Although we may not face someone with spears and a great army at their disposal, we are often set upon by people that are out to get us! Have you been guilty of trying to get someone with a "spear?" Have you acted like you were their best friend only to try to "take them down?" Don’t be like a Saul, don’t ruin each other’s day by being mean to each other!

LEADERSHIP HE GAINED

What a fighter David must have been! Yeah he slew the GIANT, but he did a lot more along the way! Even Saul recognized his fighting ability that he would back off from trying to kill him to allow him to fight on the side of God’s people, Israel.

So can we be such a warrior for the Lord? Only if we really want to be one and will dedicate our life and time to the Lord. So with all of the responsibility that awe see David gaining we see him developing leadership too. So you want to be a leader? Then learn responsibility like David did and it will come. It won’t be easy, but it will be well worth it!

REGAL DUTIES THAT ENSUED

So David finally became King. It was not a job that he campaigned for. Not one that his dad chose for him. Not really a job that was always desirable. It was a job that God had chosen him for and helped him to become the one that could do the job for Him and do it well!

Got your eye on a job? Let God help you be what you need to be to do it!
