Prepared to Meet the Challenge
1 Samuel 17

I. The Challenge that awaits all of us is truly great!

A. The challenges appear unsurmountable -- vs. 4-8
B. Anguish awaits those that are unwilling to step out. -- 9-11
II. The Children of God are many (like Jesse's) and He can call/use them to meet the challenge!
A. Jesse had eight sons -- no doubt he loved them all, was proud of them all, and wanted all of them to meet the challenge of serving his king as a strong servant (most especially the older ones).
B. Three of Jesse's sons were capable soldiers on the battlefield, yet inactive!
C. David would appear to be the least of his sons!
1. Youngest
2. Not trained as a soldier
3. He was prepared to meet the challenge!
III. The Course of action available to David was a reason for gladness in his heart.
A. Happy to witness the great battle (are we?) --20
B. Happy to do his little part (without grumbling). -- 18a
C. Happy for the opportunity to learn more. -- 18b
IV. The Cause exists that demands our action -- 29
A. While many have doubts and fears, someone must trust God to help.
B. While many stand and watch, someone must step forward.
C. While many are unarmed, we must prepare to meet the challenge like David did when he went to the brook and picked up five smooth stones!
