Why Were the Disciples
Asleep?
Luke 22:39-45 or Mark 14:35-42
Why were the disciples asleep
on the job? Were they any different than we are today? We sleep on the
job for the Lord all the time. We can make excuses, or even reasons, there
is no justification for our being asleep on Christ. "It is okay, everyone
else does it." This is the attitude of many Christians in our churches
today. One important thing we need to remember is…We won't have to answer
for all the others, but for ourselves (alone)!!!!
As we look at the disciples, we see they
were…
I. UNCONCERNED enough about Christ
too little to stay awake.
A. Uncaring about His plan, the Church, our
church, the lost, our children, etc.
B. Unaware of the dangers involved
C. Unimportant enough in their own eyes -
and it causes the same affect in others - kids, neighbors, friends)
They were also…
II. UNMOVEABLE even by the Master
A. Unbelieving of what God says or requires
of us...watch and pray!
B. Unashamed of their sleepiness/slumber.
C. Undecided who they will serve!
They found themselves…
III. UNPREPARED at the onslaught of
stormy weather.
A. Untested because of inactivity and afraid
of mistakes.
B. Unready to join in when needed. (they took
Christ)
C. Undecided which direction they will take.
How are we to be ready when the Lord comes for
us? Are we supportive for the Lord, ready in an instant or are we slumbering
unresponsive in the back pews of our churches? Do we literally nod
off every Sunday Morning? Are we asleep during the week? Are we asleep
when the Lord needs volunteers?
WELL??????
